Lets be honest, being a Adult Fan of Disney can be awkward. Many people who hear this think that your immature, childish or annoying (which does not matter to me, I am a Disney Fan and proud of it) but that does not mean you cannot throw a gorgeous dinner party with a Disney twist, without our guests having to wear Mickey ears or park shirts!
This Dinner Party theme is Hocus Pocus, one of the most iconic and nostalgic halloween movies out there (well at least for us late 80's early 90's babies). This movie is a must for me every halloween season, so starting off Disney Dinner Party series with this amazing movie ..... makes me sick!
Most of this set up is from Dollar Tree , allowing you to throw the perfectly witchy dinner party without breaking the bank! Lets dive into all the details and movie easter eggs!
“Oh look another glorious morning, makes me sick!”
I wanted to make a totally immersive dinner party set up, not photographed is our projector, showing the movie on the blank wall, or so yours guests can focus on the dinner and company you can find some great halloween ambiance windows to make it feel spooky. ( #spookyseason #hocuspocus )
The Table
The table has a lot going on so lets dive into the base of it all. I started with a plain purple plastic table cloth and a spooky themed see through one on the top, both purchased at the dollar store.
Next is the orange charger plates, stacked on top is 1 black dinner plate and 1 bread or salad plate. Paired with some black cutlery and black smoked wine glasses (both with and without stem) to add some height to the table.
Most of these items were all $1.25 at Dollar Tree
which is very budget friendly. You can also use most of these items again in other Halloween Dinner Parties, I will show you how in the next blog post.
The Details
Yes the details, so many details in this shoot. I started off with lots of candles, both tea lights and candle sticks add some height and great shadows to the table. I often prefer candle light over regular room lighting, as it sets this intimate setting has stays with the guest even after they leave for the night.
The bigger items in the direct centre of the table are a mixture of DIY and some pieces I picked up from Micheal's craft store over the years. All the other items are from the dollar store, including the trees, poison cups, eye balls, rats and candles.
The Candles
Candles are a big part of any Halloween themed dinner party. These 3 candles really tied in the theme. The witch hand is the obvious one, the mummy hand represents the mummy that comes out of the grave, and the skull represents the singer from the school dance, all 3 of these came form Dollar Tree or Dollarama.
Pair the centrepiece candles with some candle sticks of all different lengths, and colours, I chose some black and orange, I have also added some plastic spiders and some cob webs to bring some cottage vibes where they are resurrected. Add some smaller tea light candles throughout the table to tie in some warmth.
Easter Eggs
No, not literal easter egg, a movie reference easter eggs are small details most fans pick up. I wanted to add many to this set up, one of the most important ones being the eyeball from her spell book. I decided to add these to everyones drinks, the more impressive face is that they all stayed eyeball side up, usually that part would sink, so this was a must for me in this setup!
Though it may be harder to see in the photo below but there is some eggs there to. The candles with the cob webs, the stack of spell books that the skull candle is sitting on, the rats and the colours trees, all from the dollar store.
The poison bottles were bought from Dollar Tree and I put everyones drink of choice in their own so they can refill as they please. The purple and orange trees also came from the dollar store, they add some of the much needed colour this is table, it represents the main colours of the Sanderson sisters!
The photos do not do justice sometimes, seeing this in person was such an ambient sight, you are transformed into the Sanderson Sisters lives, and enjoyed a delicious dinner with friends!
